ever-more genuine connections amid trends like user-generated stories and multichannel narratives, the role of media has never been more scrutinised.<\/p><p><strong>What is the purpose of a media platform?<\/strong><\/p><p>Is it simply to present what is happening \u201cout there\u201d as it is? Or does it carry a responsibility to critique, curate, and shape what happened before presenting the \u2018outcome\u2019? Does it also exist to bring forward issues, ideas, people, or events that are not being talked about\u2014so they receive the attention they genuinely need? Does a media platform exist to serve, or to lead?<\/p><p>When it takes the form of a trade media platform\u2014focusing on specific components of an industry such as finance, tech, entertainment, design, the arts, the built environment, or politics\u2014does that focus limit its purpose, or does it sharpen it?<\/p><p>After more than 20 years working in the media industry and related fields, I\u2019ve come to realise that the ultimate purpose of a media platform is simply this: <strong>to present the subject matter as authentically as possible.<\/strong><\/p><p>What does authenticity mean here? That we neither inflate nor deflate the story. That we try our best to uncover the facts, lay out the different elements, and present as many layers as possible so the audience gains a fuller picture\u2014not just one side.<\/p><p>And unless we are personally experts in specific fields (tech, finance, politics, design, and so on), we risk falling short when we drift into critique or opinion. If we choose to highlight certain issues within a story, we must know what we are talking about\u2014and that knowledge should come from direct experience, from having done the work ourselves or being involved in the subject. Otherwise, we risk parroting what others say, or worse, echoing narratives others want us to push.<\/p><p>In trade media especially, it\u2019s tempting to speak for or against something we\u2019ve never actually done, especially if we\u2019ve spent years in the industry. Talking to experts does not make us experts.<\/p><p>What we can do, however, is raise meaningful questions from the \u201coutside-in\u201d and surface new angles or perspectives that haven\u2019t been covered before.<\/p><p>And that, I find, is the most honest role a media platform can play: to bring something to attention in a way that hasn\u2019t been done before, and to do so in the right spirit.<\/p><p>We see the world through different lenses. The stories we tell are enriched by how we see them\u2014because no one else sees the picture in exactly the same way.<\/p><p>The responsibility is simply to present those stories with honesty and integrity, so the audience is informed, and perhaps even inspired, by the perspective we bring\u2014especially in evolving fields like design, where the push toward resilient, adaptive architectures demands layered, truthful narratives over hype.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element
